Production Engineer

Job Description 

David Brown Santasalo requires a production engineer to support the day to day operational activities of our busy production department. You will provide technical guidance and problem solving skills to the manufacturing and assembly team to help ensure the build quality and standards are achieved in line with the overall programme schedule. You will be the communication line between manufacturing/assembly and engineering ensuring clear and accurate direction is given to the relevant teams.

The successful candidate must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

UK Security Clearance will be required to SC level. 

 

Job Responsibilities / Key Accountabilities

  • To provide technical guidance and problem solving skills to the production team, ensuring safty and quality are at the forefront of all activities
  • To ensure engineering released drawings are achievable with current processes (Design for manufacturing reviews)
  • Create works orders and collate tech packs with accurate routings and operations
  • Drive continuous improvements activities in quality, cycle time and process improvements
  • Create SOP’s for key activities, reduce variability in manufacturing by providing standard work methods and work instructions
  • Work closely with representatives from other functions, e.g. manufacturing, design engineering and quality
  • Hold regular reviews with technical teams on design & tooling changes to improve quality and / or productivity
  • Optimisation of processes to meet objectives of lowering cost and / or improving productivity / lead time
  • Ensure product and process quality meets specifications required
  • Identify and design bespoke methods and tooling

 

Job Requirements / Knowledge and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of engineering, manufacturing techniques and business systems (required)
  • Ability to open and interrogate 3D models in using solid edge software (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of turning, boring and milling machining (desirable)
  • Strong understanding of rotating equipment assembly methods (desirable)
  • Experience of marine gearboxes and associated ancillaries (desirable)
  • Ability to gain SC level security clearance (required)   
  • CNC programming experience (desirable)

Experience:

  • Low volume, high precision manufacturing / assembly environment
  • Knowledge of machined component drawings an advantage
  • Knowledge of common Microsoft office software
  • Minimum 5 years work experience
  • Experience of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), Kaizen (continuous improvement and problem solving) process improvement and Poka Yoke (error proofing) techniques

 

Qualifications

  • BA / BS degree in Mechanical Engineering: Preferred 
  • Function & Technical Skill in engineering drawings and manufacturing techniques: Required

 

Language Requirements

  • English: Required
