Building Knowledge & Strengthening Partnerships: DBS Gear Academy in Action
Investing in knowledge is one of the most effective ways to improve performance, reliability, and long-term success, and that’s exactly what we set out to achieve with our recent DBS Gear Academy training sessions.
Led by our Development Director, Mike Field, we delivered a series of hands-on training days with engineering teams from our customers, Heidelberg Materials and Tata Shotton. The sessions focused on deepening understanding of their gear systems and the critical role they play in day-to-day operations.
The first session took place at Heidelberg Materials’ Padeswood site, where we welcomed engineers from across their UK sites. There was strong engagement throughout the day, with engineers actively contributing, asking insightful questions, and sharing real-world challenges from their sites. The session helped build on existing technical knowledge, and opened up wider discussions for further collaboration. This included follow-up conversations with the teams around support for their gearboxes, along with interest in our condition monitoring solution, GearWatch, our asset mapping services, as well as exploring long-term framework agreements.
Building on this momentum, the second day was held at Tata Shotton and we were delighted to receive strong engagement and valuable knowledge sharing from their team of engineers. These sessions are designed to give engineers the knowledge and confidence to better understand how their equipment performs, how to spot potential issues earlier, and improve efficiency day to day. By combining hands-on experience with technical expertise, the DBS Gear Academy supports stronger collaboration and helps our customers keep their operations running smoothly, efficiently, and with confidence.
"It was great to see such strong engagement from our customers across both training days, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our customers to support their teams, optimise performance, and unlock new opportunities."
"The impact of the sessions was reflected in the feedback received, with excellent responses from attendees and additional follow-ups from customers to personally thank us for delivering such a valuable and insightful experience. One senior manager shared that they initially presumed the content would only cover information they already knew, but soon realised it was pitched to engage all levels. As the sessions progressed from fundamentals through to detailed failure analysis, it really held people’s attention, and ensured everyone came away having learned something."
