DBS Canada repair second Crowd Gearbox

Last year David Brown Santasalo’s (DBS) manufacturing facility in Montréal, Canada completed the repair of a Mobile Mining gearbox for one of our valued customers in the Iron Ore industry. This was a huge achievement for DBS Canada, as historically our customer had always used their OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Many mines across Canada became aware of this change, so all eyes were on DBS Canada.

The 27ton gearbox required a complete refurbishment, consisting of new bronze bearings and roller bearings, renewed housing bores, new gears and pinions with DBS optimised geometry. Cracks that were detected within the enclosure by Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) were also restored. Once complete, our team of service experts conducted a spin test performed with vibration analysis, to ensure the gearbox repair was delivered to the highest of standards, ready to return to operating an electric rope shovel.

This repair was a huge success, which has led to the customer sending us another high value gearbox. The 57,000lbs gearbox has been sent to us as preventative maintenance, as the unit was showing signs of wear and tear.
