DBS Finland Opens Its Expanded Tornio Service Workshop

24.03.2026

Following our announcement last year about the expansion of our Tornio service workshop, we are pleased to share that the new facility is now fully operational. After months of careful planning, construction, and coordination, our team in Tornio officially completed the move in February 2026, and we are already settling into the significantly enhanced space.

As demand for our gear unit services continues to rise across the Nordic region, it became clear that our Tornio workshop needed additional space to support this growth. This investment enables us to establish a modern, purpose‑built facility, doubling the footprint of our previous Tornio site and positioning us to better serve customers for the long term.

New Improvements, Same Reliable Location

The new workshop is located on the very same street as our previous site. This was a deliberate choice. Remaining close to our long-standing partners and maintaining our established logistics channels ensures minimal disruption to operations and supports a smooth transition for our employees.

The new facility includes 1,080 m² of production space, supported by an additional 200 m² of office and locker‑room areas, all designed with efficiency, safety and future expansion in mind. Within the production hall, the layout now brings together dedicated areas for disassembly and assembly work, washing operations, the firework cell, small machining, test runs, incoming goods and packing, as well as warehousing and storage. This improved structure creates a clearer, safer and more streamlined workflow throughout the entire site.

While the equipment and processes remain consistent with the previous facility, the improved layout and significantly increased space allow the team to handle large gear units more safely and efficiently. Most importantly, the new site gives us the possibility to scale operations further as the business continues to grow.

Sustainability considerations were integrated into the design and specification of the site. Motion‑controlled lighting reduces energy usage in day‑to‑day operations, while heating is supplied through Green District Heating, a carbon‑neutral solution. The facility also runs on climate‑neutral hydroelectricity with an EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration), further lowering the environmental impact of our operations in Tornio.

Transitioning Without Disruption

To minimise downtime during the move, DBS dedicated additional resources to support the transition. Jaakko Pirttimaa, Assembly Manager, from our Jyväskylä factory in Finland spent over a month on site in Tornio, working closely with the local team and external partners to manage the relocation. Their combined efforts, along with the strong commitment of the Tornio employees, ensured the move was completed on schedule and without any disruption to customer orders. The new facility was handed over at the end of January 2026, and all processes were transitioned through February, before becoming fully operational in February 2026.

Customer Benefits & What’s Next

Customers will see an immediate uplift in capacity, enabling our team to respond more quickly while maintaining the high quality standards they expect. The larger footprint and safer, more efficient layout allow us to handle bigger gear units with greater confidence and control, which supports dependable lead times as volumes increase. Over the longer term, the expanded space gives us the headroom to grow our operations, consider broadening the services we offer through Tornio, and continue supporting our advanced manufacturing activities in northern Finland and across the region. In the near term, we will focus on fine‑tuning our workshop repair processes and optimising the new workflow so these benefits are fully realised.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Jaakko Pirttimaa, Assembly Manager Jyväskylä, for coordinating the transition in Tornio, and to the Tornio employees for their outstanding motivation and attitude throughout the preparations, transfer of goods, and arrangement of working cells in the new facility. Thanks to everyone’s commitment, we completed the project on time and without any disturbance to our processes or customer orders.”
