Happy World Engineering Day!

Today, on 4th March 2025, we proudly celebrate World Engineering Day, recognising the vital role engineers play in shaping a sustainable and innovative future.
As leading global experts in engineered mechanical power transmissions for all industries, David Brown Santasalo are at the heart of this progress, keeping the industries of our world turning. Join us in honouring our team of dedicated engineers, and engineers across the world, who have a profound impact on industries, communities and everyday life.
As well as celebrating engineers and engineering, World Engineering Day also aims to improve public understanding of how engineering and technology are central to modern life and for sustainable development. As a global business we recognise the impact of our operations have on climate change, and the efforts we must make to limit them.
In 2021, David Brown Santasalo was one of the first gearbox manufacturers to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our SBTi commitments include reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 53.9% by 2032, from a 2021 base year. Additionally, 67% of DBS suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services will have science-based targets by 2027, as well as 70% of customers by emissions covering use of sold products, will have science based targets by 2027. Our targets were submitted for official evaluation by the SBTi Validation Team and in April 2024, following a rigorous review against the SBTi science-based criteria, David Brown Santasalo’s targets were officially approved. Groundbreaking Projects
As part of our ongoing commitment to the SBTi, we introduced “Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) Cradle to Gate CO2 equivalent” reporting for all of our mining products in early 2022. Since that time, we have continued to develop this groundbreaking project and are pleased to introduce the CFP Cradle to Gate CO2eq for our DBS segmented girth gear range of products! This is an outstanding achievement for the business and continues to position David Brown Santasalo at the forefront of leading the industry in sustainable practices and working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We look forward to continuing to expand this programme across further industrial products. To find out more about the latest development in this project, please click here.
