Team Member - Case Machining

Job Summary

Working within a skilled department as a team, improving processes by time and motion processes and tooling selection. To work within the guidelines set out in David Brown Santasalo on quality & health & safety procedures within the engineering site environment.

Job Responsibilities / Key Accountabilities 

Working as part of the Case Machining Team and reporting to the technical lead. 

  • Use of measuring equipment, i.e. internal and external micrometres. Knowledge of Faro tracker laser measurement would be an advantage
  • Completing records for quality of components on manufactured parts, recording serial/ cast numbers keeping all documents in order etc
  • Machining of fabricated and casting components from 0.5mtr to 10mtrs up to a maximum weight of 35 tons
  • Working with the team on training and support to improve as an individual and the rest of the team
  • Engaging in continuous improvement projects and champion individual projects within the team
  • Management of paperwork and keeping SAP up to date by process control methods.
  • Online and offline programming using Heidenhain TNC 640 contouring control
  • Setting and operating large horizontal manual and CNC boring machinery
  • Engaging in 5s improvements and championing projects within the area
  • Machining of high precision gearing components and small parts
  • Producing precision machined components and tooling items
  • Setting and operating a variety of CNC and Manual machines
  • Lifting of large components of complicated shapes and mas
  • Reporting and problem solving machine issues
  • Interpreting complex engineering drawings
  • Ensuring good house-keeping practices
  • Checking the quality of components

Knowledge and Experience 

Required

  • Experience of operating Horizontal Borers and working to high standards of dimensional accuracy
  • Use of measuring equipment, internal and external micrometers
  • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Experience of working in a close tolerance environment
  • Experience using Heidenhain machine controls
  • CNC and Manual machining experience

Desired

  • Knowledge of Faro tracker laser measurement would be an advantage
  • Experience in carrying out first line maintenance of the machines

Requirements 

  • Education / Degree (s): Minimum: Minimum Apprenticeship qualified - level 3 or above
  • Field of Study: CNC/Manual Machining
  • Computer Skills: Heidenhain, Programming & Basic Microsoft Windows
  • Functional & Technical Skills: Apprentice trained
  • Language: English Required
