It is now five years since DBS first opened our service workshop in Gällivare and prior to that, we served customers in northern Sweden from our locations in Gothenburg and Finland. Erik Larsson, Workshop Manager for DBS Gällivare, was working in the company's workshop in Gothenburg when he was offered the opportunity to start up the business. It was a perfect fit, as the business wanted someone who knew how DBS worked and had the right skills to lead a new team.
Here, Erik Larsson, Workshop Manager talks about the evolution of the Gällivare business, which has grown significantly over the past five years and has led to the business building DBS' Northern-most workshop in Sweden.
Erik commented, “I was delighted to accept the role of Workshop Manager in Gällivare back in 2016 as the combination of being responsible for a workshop and the lifestyle here, perfectly suited my interest in the outdoors and nature. This made it easy for me say yes to the opportunity.”
DBS works globally with manufacturing, sales, installations, service and repair of industrial gearboxes and gear rings. In Gällivare, there is great focus on the service operations and is offered on all gearboxes, including any third-party brand.
“We have had strong growth since the start of our operations in Gällivare and today we have four employed service technicians. We mainly serve customers in Mining and Paper, but we also offer our services to other industries. The idea with our new service workshop in Gällivare is that we will cover northern Norway and northern Sweden.” Erik continues.
When operations first began in Gällivare, DBS rented our workshop space from another company. However, due to the high demand for gearbox service in the area, we quickly took over the premises full time. In 2019, the requirement for a larger workshop became clear and at the beginning of 2020, we commenced the construction of a purpose-built 1,000 sqm service workshop.
The team moved into the new workshop in late November 2020 and are benefitting from an improved workspace, which is 300 sqm larger than our previous premises. Furthermore, the team are equipped to handle larger gearboxes for our expanding customer base.
Erik concluded, “Business is increasing rapidly in Gällivare as we offer expertise that was not previously in place. It also means that we can be with our customers when and where they need us, as we provide a 24-hour service. It feels great that we can make a difference and help our customers with their urgent requirements.”
David Brown Santasalo is investing heavily in our global network. Most recently, we have commenced construction of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Jyväskylä, Finland. Phase 1 is due for completion in October 2021 and the aim is to create improved service for our customers in both Europe and our global network, through significantly shorter delivery times for gear components, gears and complete gearbox solutions.
